NEW KITCHENS AND CLASSROOM CEILINGS FOR GAUTENG SCHOOLS

Cashbuild Art at Heart Event Sky City 2019 Seven schools in Sky City, Gauteng, were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000. The vouchers were handed out at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the new Cashbuild Sky City Mall store on the 23rd of May 2019. Plans include the building of a kitchen, fixing of ceilings and painting of classrooms.

Pheasant Folly Primary School, Thabotona Primary School and Mohlodi Primary School are just three of the seven schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher.

Ms Kubeka, the principal of Pheasant Folly Primary School says they will be using the Cashbuild voucher to buy materials to start building a brand new kitchen and possibly start on a school library as well. "We currently feed 2245 children from a small mobile kitchen so having a proper kitchen will be very beneficial to us as we will be able to prepare food on a bigger scale. Other than that, we would also like to start building our very own library for the learners, so that they can easily have a number of books at their disposal. For this, we are very grateful to Cashbuild."

Thabotona Primary School's principal, Mr Kahoarai is thankful to be one of the schools receiving the voucher and said: "We have quite a number of classrooms that need urgent maintenance. We will now finally be able to give the classrooms a fresh paint job as well as replace some window and doors. We also want to build a proper kitchen on our premises."

The principal of Mohlodi Primary School, Mr Bongani, says: "We have quite a number of items to fix around the school which include painting and replacing the ceilings in some classrooms. Also, for the upcoming winter months, we need to replace the gutters around the school grounds to assist with drainage of water in the rainy season."

At the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the new Cashbuild Sky City Mall store on the 23rd of May 2019, when the building material vouchers totaling R105 000 were handed out to the seven winning schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager's Choice was awarded to a learner from Mohlodi Primary School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy. The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the new store.
