"We are taking our boys with," those were the words of Programmes Manager Charmaine Nhlapo.
This was a direct instruction to Chief Volunteer Officer Rams Mabote to go find the money to take 20 boys to Durban.
A few phone calls to friends were pivotal. In his personal capacity MiWay Insurance Rene Otto pledged the first R10 000. Another friend of Future Kings Cashbuild came in at R30 000 matched by Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Sesego Foundation came in with another R5000.
With R75 000 in the bank, we went on a social media campaign. And then good Samaritans came one after another. R2000 here and R500 there and another R4000 there. And with two days to, we were on R92 800.
Nothando Thando Baloyi threw in the missing puzzle of R7 200. And with one day to go, we made target and more.
Tsogo Sun came in and accommodated our staff. Mercedes Benz Financial Services provided the shuttle services.
And thus we put 10 boys on the airplane for the first time. Five from Soweto and another 5 from Cosmo City.
In Durban we had 10 more from Kearsney College. Everyone kitted for 3 days and treated like kings, thanks to the generous friends like you.
