CASHBUILD VOUCHERS HELP REPAIR AND PAVE SCHOOLS IN MIDRAND

Six schools in Ebony Park, Midrand were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000 which means the schools will be able to improve and repair their premises. The vouchers were handed out at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the new Cashbuild Ebony Park store on the 13th of February 2020.

Kaalfontein Primary School, Sedi-Laka Primary School and Khayalami Independent School were just three of the six schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher.

Mr Emmanuel Mohale, the principal of Kaalfontein Primary School says they have quite a few plans for how to best use their Cashbuild voucher. "We have some major plumbing repairs to do on all our toilet facilities as we need to replace toilet seats, pipes, taps, hand basins and toilet bowls. Also, in the classrooms, there are window frames that are broken and need fixing, and we need to replace quite a few door locks as well."

Sedi-Laka Primary School's principal, Mr Mzano Mazwi said: "Our assembly court is in need of some maintenance as there are quite a few holes in the cement which makes walking, sitting or standing quite unpleasant for staff and learners. We would like to fill these holes with cement and do some paving. Once that is done, we would also like to build a shelter over the assembly area so that the learners will be able to stand outside even when the weather is bad."

Mr Solomon Maleeye, staff member of Khayalami Independent School, said: "We are so grateful to Cashbuild, because now we can finally get around to paving the outside area of most of our classrooms. We will also be painting and repairing the ceilings of some of the rooms."

Building material vouchers totaling R90 000 were handed out at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the new Cashbuild Ebony Park store on the 13th of February 2020. The children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager's Choice Award was presented to a learner from Rebonwe Primary School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a backpack filled with stationery and a trophy. The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the new store.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region's most needy schools.
